June 5th of 1980 is a changing date in my history, it’s the day that upended my world when they tell me I wrecked my motorcycle and was in a coma for 6 weeks. I can’t remember riding that day and I had home bound Physical Therapists once or twice a month until March of ’81. Not nearly as much was known 44 years ago as there is today about the importance of physical therapy or should I say the expedience of pt before, “the routes in the brain are severed,” and negative information and influences ruin the ” day”.
I finally got to go the rehabilitation center iñ WV I in March of ’81. Iñ the Fall semester of ’80, I had a home bound teacher who gave me 3, eleventh grade subjects, which ment that I got 1 1/2 credits my 11th grade year. I was at the rehab center for 4 months and they sent me home to graduate with my class. The idea of dropping out of school and getting my GED has been “floated” by me but my Aunt who was a social worker with the DHS wouldn’t let that happen. She let me stay the first semester of my senior year with her and her family. When I went back to school, I did have to change my curriculum but I did march with my class of 1982 to a standing ovation
